For me, I tried my way for 8 years and it didn't work. I worked with a guy who was a part of a group that didn't believe in a Higher Power and it
worked for them. He ended up leaving the group, relapsed, and from what I hear now, he is doing Bible study.
For me, the program works for atheists. They may not believe in God but I believe God believes in them. There is a difference between Spirituality and Religion. For me, one enhances the other. Love Always,

Wow...this must be my day for not knowing. I have a Higher Power in my life, and I give the credit for my sobriety to Him.
There are also athiests in the program...so I don't know...most of the ones I'm acquainted with still have a spiritual program. Sam |

I Think it only works with a higher power (AA itself can be a higher power)
However for me I think it all has only all come back to God being the Higher Power that works for me Love JD

I also feel it works only if you believe in something. I think this is why some have such a hard time with our concept of recovery. I also feel sad somewhat
however that there are people out there that have no faith on anything else out there, but then again maybe to them its just fine. I had to turn my crazy life
over as it was killing me...

I believed in God when I came in but I sure didnt have a clue as to the beauty & power in a Higher Power. my God at that time was more of a scary like
Catholic Jesus with the bloody thorns kind of God, (no disrespect to anyones God, or religion, just trying to explain) but once step 2 manifested for me and
"I Came to Believe"!!!! it all changed...so for me, Im sure God had everything to do with it, if it were up to me, Id still be looking for a way to
drink, & use without the consequences and pain it inevidably cost me! I think I saw the evidence of miracles and Gods love in others before me from
fellowshippers in A.A., and I wanted me some of that! (big smile) and here I am. What a great thought provoking question. Its been interesting getting to know
everyone thru their answers. Thanks for sharing a little of you with me. Kat

Kat you hit it on the head for me. I did have some beliefs when I was young , when I got here I have to say inside I still believed but was not to stoked on
the God I thought I knew. I was raised if you were bad you were going to hell, so go for it as I was always bad.. and in the program it changed to a belief
that went from what my head, books, people, pictures had implanted to something that is in my heart. I cannot even explain it as there is nothing to relate it
to, no book, no religion, nothing but my HP is now in my heart. I also find that if we all have different answers I feel ok today about that and do get to
know people better like you saId. Thank You Kat I needed to be brought back to that.

Hi Tink,
Isnt it amazing about finding who we are? who our Higher Power is? & Whos we are? once we come in and those thick cobwebs, judgements, preconcieved beliefs begin to clear? I was overwhelmed with a knowledge...nothing but sweet knowledge that I am loved, I am enough, I am loveable, worthy..etc...and I didnt have to be or do anymore or less. I just knew. I am so grateful for this program and the people in it. im grateful for you too Tink. I know you have an amazing heart and God is using you. I saw in your other post about struggling being new in your area and feeling probably a bit lonely, intimidated...homesick...etc. but Im glad you shared, otherwize I wouldnt have known to pray...and you know the power of prayers!!!Im here for you Tink...
